What does wide mean?
Wide means the ebook is distributed somewhere other than the Kindle Store: another retailer, a library service, or your own site. KDP's Select page says that if the ebook is enrolled, you cannot distribute it digitally anywhere else, including your website and blogs. Going wide is the opposite of that term. It is not a promise of sales, and none of the pages checked on 6 October 2026 publishes a conversion rate for leaving Amazon. The choice is which stores are allowed to sell the file.[78][79]
- The Kindle ebook can stay on KDP while it is also wide. Wide does not require you to leave Amazon. It requires you to leave KDP Select.
- A sample of up to 10 percent on other sites is allowed during Select. That sample is not a wide edition of the book.

Should you upload direct or use an aggregator?
Direct means a separate account at the retailer. KDP is the direct account for Amazon. Draft2Digital is the aggregator this page can cite in detail: you upload once, choose stores with checkboxes, and it converts a Word file or accepts an EPUB. The FAQ says you can download the converted EPUB and use it anywhere, including outside Draft2Digital. The FAQ states a non-refundable one-time activation fee of $20 for new accounts, a $12 annual maintenance fee when the account earns less than $100 a year, and a commission of about 10 percent of the retail price. Read the fee on the account screen before you publish. If you also upload the ebook to KDP yourself, leave Amazon unticked at the aggregator. Draft2Digital says it does not recommend double-listing.[26][27][60]
- The FAQ lists Amazon, which it marks invite only, Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Kobo including Kobo Plus, the Smashwords Store, Bookshop.org, Tolino, OverDrive, cloudLibrary, Everand, Hoopla, Vivlio, BorrowBox, and Gardners. The partners page also names Fable. Tick only the stores you want.
- IngramSpark can distribute an ebook too, at 85 percent of the net revenue it receives. That is a second aggregator-style ebook path, not a requirement.
03
What about libraries?
Library ebook sales are a Draft2Digital store choice, not an automatic result of going wide. The FAQ names OverDrive, cloudLibrary, Hoopla, BorrowBox, and Vivlio among the library channels an ebook can be sent to. It says library retailers often take the longest to list a book, and it does not give a number of days. If you select Erotica as a BISAC category, or the book is flagged as erotic, the FAQ says it will not go to Bookshop.org, or to public library systems through OverDrive, cloudLibrary, Hoopla, or BorrowBox. Print libraries are a different channel. IngramSpark says that enabling wholesale distribution makes the print book available to libraries as well as bookstores, and that a library still has to order it.[26][220]
- Draft2Digital says not to mail unsolicited print copies to libraries. If a returned shipment comes back to Draft2Digital, you pay the shipping.
- A library order is not a review and not a bookstore display.

How does this interact with KDP Select?
KDP Select and a wide ebook cannot run together. During the 90 days the ebook may go through KDP and public libraries, and nowhere else digitally. To go wide, uncheck automatic renewal and wait until the current term ends, or cancel within three days of the start. After three days the enrollment page says to contact KDP. If the ebook is already on other stores, remove it before you enroll. Draft2Digital expects store and subscription partners to remove a book within 3 business days of a delist request, and says delisting can be delayed. Delisting means the request is in progress. Delisted means it is gone from every selected store. KDP does not publish how long to wait after that. The rules for what else Select blocks are on the exclusivity answer.[77][78][87][88]
- Print, video, and audio can stay on other services during the ebook term.
- Enrolling again later starts a new 90-day exclusive term. Take the wide ebook down first.

What print options support wide distribution?
Wide print means bookstores and libraries can order a copy, which is not the same as Amazon selling a KDP paperback. IngramSpark does that wholesale job when you enable distribution, and it says the offer is not exclusive. If the print book is also on KDP, leave Expanded Distribution off so the same book is not in two wholesale feeds. Expanded Distribution, when you do use it alone, pays 40 percent of list price minus printing cost. It is a KDP channel, not IngramSpark. Draft2Digital Print is the other wide print route: paperbacks only, listed with Amazon and with Ingram-served channels. Do not turn that on if the book is already on IngramSpark. Use an ISBN you own for a print book that will live on more than one service. A free KDP ISBN cannot leave KDP, and a free IngramSpark ISBN cannot be transferred.[23][26][51][220]
- IngramSpark says a distributed book can take 2 to 6 weeks to show on retailer sites. Draft2Digital says print listings are somewhere around 2 weeks.
- Neither timeline means a shop will stock the book. Ordering is still the buyer's decision.
