About
What Publishing Map is
Publishing Map is a free public reference for how a book gets from a manuscript to a reader. It names the route, who pays, who does the work, who keeps the rights, and what to check before you sign or pay.
Who maintains it
Euwyn Goh creates and maintains Publishing Map. He is the founder of Wordsmith, which appears where relevant alongside other options. No provider pays for placement or ranking.
What it covers
The map covers the publishing routes and the work they share: writing, critique, editing, cover design, formatting, rights and metadata, production, distribution, launch, and the audience after publication. Answer pages each take one decision. The directory lists places to look. The guided pages apply a route, a next stage, a cost range, or an offer check to one book. The reference keeps the full cited record.
How sources are checked
A factual claim is tied to a numbered source, and that source is a working link. Where a page records an access date, that date is the day the cited page was checked. A price or a timeline is a planning range from the cited source, not a quote for your book. Missing figures, deadlines and rules are marked as not stated. The methodology note explains the planning ranges; material changes are recorded in corrections.
