Inkshares

Book publisher that says readers, rather than agents or editors, decide what it publishes by pre-ordering. The FAQ says publishing starts at 750 pre-orders, that authors receive 35 percent of net receivables after production and distribution costs, and that it does not charge a crowdfunding fee.

Useful when: You need a publisher that uses a stated pre-order threshold instead of an agent or an author fee.

Hitting the threshold is not instant publication. The FAQ says the process typically takes 9 to 12 months after the final manuscript, and that a standalone ebook purchase counts toward the goal while a free ebook bundled with print does not. Confirm the current threshold, the definition of net receivables, and what backers are promised. Distribution claims are the publisher's claims. This is not a traditional agency submission and not an author-funded hybrid package.

How to choose

Choose between publishing a serial, building a newsletter, and offering memberships. Match the format and cadence to readers you can realistically keep serving.

Checks before committing

Review content rights, platform rules, payment eligibility, fees, portability, and exclusivity elsewhere. A platform account does not bring an audience automatically.

Informational listings, not endorsements or quality ratings. Descriptions are checked against official pages, not through an independent service audit. Confirm current prices, service availability, and terms with the provider.
